Hans Peter Hansen and his sweetheart, Anne Margrethe Jensen, left Copenhagen in 1879 on a journey to Queensland, Australia. They arrived at Rockhampton on the ship, Charles Dickens, and were married within a year, then had their first daughter. They started their life together in Rockhampton, moving later to Normanton, Copperfield then Croydon - perhaps following the gold mining boom. However, life at that time, and in that place was hard and after 8 years they migrated again. This time to Auckland, New Zealand, and now with four children. Hans Peter worked the land to support his family but life was still tough.
